2013 Flu Symptoms

2013 flu symptoms

It’s that time of the year when the flu gets to lots of people across the nation. This year several deaths have been reported and the number of admitted patients overwhelming. Influenza is a killer virus and treating it early is the best way to defeat it. Getting to the virus early enough means recognizing the symptoms related with flu. The 2013 flu symptoms are no less forgiving and everyone’s needs to get familiar with them. Statistics show that a significant number of influenza patients don’t know that they suffer from it.

Because influenza takes up to one week to manifest itself in a human’s body, the respiratory system is severely compromised by this virus. Influenza attacks the lungs, bronchial tubes, the throat and also the nose, making one cough and sneeze endlessly, without mentioning the constant running nose. Many refer to it as a bad cold and treat for symptoms that point to the virus. This misdiagnosis is what leads to the unnecessary deaths.

Health experts have released the 2013 flu symptoms to watch out for. The onset of influenza usually hits hard. One sleeps soundly only to wake up feeling like someone trampled on by a buffalo. These symptoms include migraine-like headache, extreme exhaustion, fever that raises body temperature 38C or even higher, diarrhea, cough and cold, running nose or clogged breathing passages or both accompanied with muscle pains.

Key to note is that these previously mentioned symptoms occur in both children and adults. There are however significant differences between symptoms in adults and symptoms in children. To both children and adults, fever, coughing, heavy breathing and relentless vomiting are common symptoms. Flu symptoms exclusive to children are irritability, rash, inactivity and lack of tears while crying. Grown-ups usually suffer pain in the chest cavity and abdomen, bewilderment and dizziness.

The full blown attack of these symptoms makes body organs vulnerable to the severity of this virus and if left unattended, death is inevitable. Influenza is highly contagious; therefore detecting the symptoms early enough saves an individual, a family, a town, even a state. It is said that within the proximity of six feet of the sneeze from an influenza-infected person, one is more than likely to catch the virus.

Physicians state that five to seven days of treatment are enough to keep the virus at bay. However, symptoms like coughing can persist but shouldn’t be a cause for worry. Influenza lowers the immune system exposing it to optimistic infections such as pneumonia. This is what makes the virus so deadly.

Preventive medication such as tamiflu comes in handy. There is no known cure for influenza since it is a virus; treatment is carried out just for the symptoms. Therefore practicing hygiene should be a priority for the people. Simple and basic hygiene routines such hand washing can be the difference between one staying healthy and one fighting for life after a virus attack.

The release of the 2013 flu symptoms couldn’t have come at a better time. This year goes down in history as a rough year medically after the government declared a state of emergency in over 40 states following the widespread infections.
